"Lavender Dawn" -- Willets (Catoptrophorus semipalmatus, in the sandpiper family) appear in all sorts of permutations and habitats. In winter in Florida their non-breeding plumage appears in many variations of grey–and I have some nicely subtle shots–one was in the Burnett show in July 2007. When breeding (as here at Allens Pond) their patterning is more pronounced, and can wonderfully echo the sun’s early light.
