Bare-throated Tiger-heron
(Tigrisoma mexicanum)

At 32 inches, this is the largest of Costa Rica's three tiger-herons. Always a striking sight, it is widespread but not necessarily easily seen in its habitats. This shot is from a boat on the Sarapiquí River (near La Selva) in the Caribbean lowlands.
