Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
(Tyrannus forficatus)

Ubiquitous on fences and telephone wires in the American southwest, this bird also retreats to trees and bushes, as here. It's a male: note the tail extending to the lower-left corner of the image! This image is from the Texas hill country, April 2004.
